AT THIS WEEK'S Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Meeting in Tokyo, company president Ken Kutaragi meandered along to continue with his solemn warnings that the PlayStation 3 will not be a cheap console, even going so far as to say that "…the PS3 can't be offered at a price that's targeted towards households."

Well err, who else were you thinking of selling it to? That aside, he does say that Sony is planning a lifecycle of ten years for the PS3, which is about double what its predecessors got. Sony hopes to maintain this long life-cycle by investing now in those expensive pieces of kit, saying "We're looking at a life cycle of 10 years with the PlayStation 3. We're currently shifting from standard TVs to HDTVs.

"But in the next couple of years, most flat-panel TVs will be full HD. We're releasing the PS3 with full HD features from the start so that consumers won't have to buy another version of the console in the future. For the same reason, we're using Blu-ray as the PS3's disc format."

He also showed the first slides of the early dev kits and told the audience that Sony intends to meet the huge demand from developers to get their hands on the technology by October, as at the moment the number currently shipped to developers is only around 450, though they’ll ramp that up to 3,000 a month come October.

We can’t help but get uneasy feelings in our stomachs about the PS3 considering that it’ll be coming to market so long after the Xbox 360 and with a price tag to boot. Wonder how far that loyal PlayStation fan base will stretch?

Ayer en el programa Rides de Discovery Channel, tuve la grata sorpresa de ver un automovil de concepto de Ford de tamaño pequeño. Esto no deja de ser novedoso, si pensamos que los autos de este segmento jamas han tenido exito en USA, razon por la cual las automotoras norteamericanas no los fabrican. Si esta pensando querido lector en autos como el Ford Ka, lamento decepcionarlo pero jamas uno de esos a visto USA.
Si bien el auto es revolucionario desde este punto, tambien lo es que para su diseño, siempre pensando en que llegue a ser una auto de produccion, no fue concebido primeramente tirando lineas, sino que estableciendo un acopio importante de iamagenieria y conceptualizacion del usuario al que estara dirigido, pensandolo en el contexto de que se espera que para el 2010 por primera vez en la historia vivira mas gente en las ciudades que en los terrenos campestres o suburbanos. Esto fue lo que doto al SYN de una apariencia durisima por fuera, como una coraza que protegera al dueño de la agresion y la creciente inseguridad externa.
Por otro lado, interiormente es delicado y acogedor, con detalles sublimes, como el que no tenga vidrio en la parte trasera, si no que una pantalla de plasma en la cual camaras meustra que pasa detra del vehiculo, pero tambien sirve para ver DVD's.
Como dato freak, el nombre de trabajo del prototipo fue "Gorilla", y la estetica externa del auto recuerda poderosamente a la usada por el grupo virtual Gorillaz en sus videos e imagenes.

De este punto se acaba la marcha blanca, durante la cual la idea fue hacer acopio de posibles "Subjects" sobre los cuales tratar en este pasquin incorporeo.
Asi se a perfilado un abanico de topicos, los cuales ahora con el funcionamiento oficial del blog seran procesados, y no solo copiados desde las fuentes de noticias que atiborran la red. Otro aspecto importante fue el descubrir que la mayoria de los blog estan en Ingles, por lo que es indespensable tener mas de algun post en ese idioma, para asi mejorar los niveles de audiencia.
Muy estiamdo lector, no es de mi gusto el hacer petitorios descarados, pero si tiene a bien hacer click en los anuncios de google, serviria para que de una vez se moviera el pesado 0 del indicador de Ad sense y tener por lo menos un centavo guardado en algun lugar de norteamerica.
bueno, comienza esto, esperando encontrar gente con personalidad adictiva que en encuentre en estas letras y las sucesivas un sustituto fiable para sus manias diarias.

Parece ser que Mercedes Benz está empeñada en no repetir su desastrosa estrategia de comienzo de los noventa cuando para hacer frente a los modelos de lujo de las japonesas, terminó cediendo gran parte del mercado a su eterna rival la BMW y buscando soluciones extremas como la fusión con la norteamericana Chrysler. Como dicen, el que pestañea pierde, y claramente Mercedes Benz perdió y mucho.
Hoy su realidad es distinta. La marca está en medio de una serie de lanzamientos -incluyendo a Chile- que buscan rejuvenecer la imagen de la marca y acercarse a nuevos clientes. Precisamente a uno de estos lanzamientos queremos referirnos. Se trata del Clase R, un aerodinámico vehículo familiar que recuerda el diseño del Chrysler Pacífica. Nada raro dirá Ud.
Este modelo iniciará sus ventas el próximo 2006, y según la marca se puede definir como un Grand Sports Tourer. Es decir, se trata de un vehículo que conjuga las ventajas de varias categorías de vehículos: monovolumen, deportivo, familiar y todoterreno. La filosofía del nuevo Clase R se resume en tres D, diseño, dimensiones y dinamismo y entra a formar parte de ese nuevo tipo de vehículos que anteponen el disfrute del tipo libre y la comodidad a bordo.

Volar en el Enterprise ya no será lo mismo. Ayer falleció en Redmond, Estados Unidos, James Doohan, el emblemático ingeniero Scotty. El hombre que por tantos años se encargó de teletransportar al capitán Kirk (William Shatner) y al señor Spock (Leonard Nimoy) en sus aventuras en "Viaje a las estrellas", murió de neumonía.

Doohan era el encargado de responder al llamado "¡teletranspórtame, Scotty!" que pronunciaban sus compañeros cada vez que querían escapar de una amenaza en la serie de TV ideada en los 60.

"Amaba ser Scotty y todo lo referido a Star Trek", señaló Steve Stevens, representante del actor de 85 años y que desde hace varios sufría el mal de Alzheimer. Al momento de morir se encontraba en su casa al lado de su esposa, durmiendo.

"No creo que la gente haya reconocido el gran actor que fue", añadió el agente, quien además confidenció que las cenizas del Doohan serán enviadas al espacio por la empresa Space Services Inc., cumpliendo así con su último deseo.

WOLFENSTEIN 3D, Doom and Doom II all helped ruin my social life. In return, they expanded my knowledge of modern weaponry (real and imagined), my ability to stare unblinking at a screen for 14 hours, led to bladder control of heroic proportions and nurtured an inexplicable lust to kill computer-generated foes.

After six or seven hours of intense carnage, they also made me very jumpy and caused weeks of dreams in which I’d often work out how to clear a particularly difficult level. So strong was the pull of Doom that these solutions would be tried out immediately on waking, before dashing out the door breakfast-less, for the drudgery of public transport and arriving late to work. Despite all this ‘wasted time’, I’ve rarely felt that same pumped-up, edge-of-the-seat, checking over my shoulder in the dark, kind of excitement as I did with the Doom family. And now we have a movie due in a few months.

While I initially felt a little flutter of excitement at the prospect of seeing my old friends like the Baron of Hell on the big screen, it was swamped by memories of other game-to-movie releases. My joy withered and disappeared faster than the pop career of an ex-member of S Club 7. I endured torturous flashbacks of Super Mario Bros, Tomb Raider, Wing Commander, Resident Evil, Double Dragon, Street Fighter and Mortal Combat. When I finished weeping, I just erased the Doom movie from my short-term memory and quashed any fledgling hope of something half decent for a number of reasons.

Movies provide you with a big concentrated dose of entertainment in a short span of time. Even my favourite movies - and I really like my home cinema - only get aired about twice a year. This doesn’t include re-watching favourite bits but on the whole we are looking at no more than six hours each a year.

Compare that to what a game offers. Weeks of intense, single-minded effort and time-wasting coupled with scouring the Web for forums and virtual friends for help, new maps, mods and walkthroughs. Then after a year, you take it out again and willingly put yourself through it all again. Then come the add-on packs, followed by a whole new game. A movie can never really compete with any of that. So, having forgotten Doom the Movie, I now see reports that it may not actually suck after all. Why?

Well, it seems that they have based the story – loosely – on Doom 3 and it’s going to be ‘Over 18s-only’. This means that you too will end up watching it alongside some pimply 12-year olds. At the recent San Diego Comic Con, games critics from Gamecloud got a preview of early footage and are now saying it might not be too bad. They even got to see a scene shot from the first-person perspective with magazines being slotted into guns before braving corridors overrun with demon spawn. While this is a great nod to the gaming fraternity, they also tried the ‘game-feel’ thing with Alien Vs Predator which proved to be more annoying than anything else.

The Rock, that amiable monster from wrestling takes on the role of Sarge while Karl Urban has shed his hippie Lord of the Rings locks for the lead role of John Grimm. And haven’t we all been John Grimm at one time or another? Still, despite all the good vibes, I can’t help but think that they’ll screw it up. The CGI, like Resident Evil, will be hokey, the script will be sub-Aliens and that by the time it comes out, that reassuring R-rating will have been watered down by some greedy, hand-wringing studio producer desperate to suck the cash from a younger teen audience. Even Tomb Raider, fronted by fat-lip Jolie, proved a limp affair. I truly hope that I’m wrong but most of the signs so far indicate that movies based on games are rubbish. Even if Doom the Movie beats the odds and turns out OK, it still won’t be a patch on the thrill of the games. It will probably help shift a few million more of them though and that’s always a good thing."

El MSN dejó de ser una entretención. Sí, porque hoy las personas utilizan cada día más los programas de mensajería instantánea para estar conectados no sólo con los amigos, sino que también con su equipo de trabajo.

Un beneficio que ha facilitado la comunicación, pero que también ha traído consigo un peligro, ya que ahora los usuarios de estas aplicaciones son el blanco de los ataques de los creadores de virus, lo que constituye una amenaza tanto para los usuarios individuales como para las empresas.

Así lo afirma un estudio del IMlogic Threat Center, una entidad conformada por empresas como Symantec, Sybari, McAfee, Imlogic, Microsoft, AOL y Yahoo.

Según el informe, los ataques a través de estas aplicaciones aumentaron de 20 variedades registradas durante todo 2004, a 571 tipos de ataques distintos durante el segundo trimestre de 2005.

Hay que tener en cuenta que cerca del 70% de los ataques registrados tuvieron como objetivo redes públicas de mensajería instantánea, mientras que el restante 30% tuvieron como blanco las empresas.

Los expertos señalan que una de las razones que explican el aumento de los ataques a través de los programas de mensajería instatánea, es que los escritores de virus poseen código “listo para usar”.

Así, muchos de los atacantes, simplemente toman un desarrollo previo, e intentan sus propias mutaciones, adaptadas al contexto del MSN.

NEW YORK - Apple Computer, whose iTunes and iPods took a major step toward rescuing the music industry from the grip of pirates, is poised to do a similar service for videos.

Some of the top music labels say they've been contacted by Apple (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people ) about the prospects of selling music videos on iTunes—probably ahead of a fall debut of a color-screen Apple full-motion video iPod. The labels ought to be jumping for joy.

Since the debut of MTV nearly a quarter century ago, the top music companies have been churning out music videos to fill an instant need for 24-hour services that reach their music buyer audience directly and immediately. As one music industry insider put it, "the labels watched MTV build a multibillion dollar business on material they supplied for free."

And that was at a big, sometimes enormous, cost. Some of the highest-concept, most elaborate videos soared well into seven-digits for the hottest groups. The cost of producing a Michael and Janet Jackson video for "Scream" passed the $7 million mark for just a few minutes of high-concept production. Until now, music videos have been entirely a cost-center for the music industry—alongside ads, posters and other promotional devices.

Now, suddenly, Apple is dangling the prospects of turning these into a profit center, or as one senior record label exec put it, "at least it might let us recover our costs."

In fact, it could do whole lot more than that. Recently, with growing music piracy adding to the burden of big-time record labels and their stars, there's been a shrinking piece of the pie left for the production of music videos.

Video directors—and in the interest of full disclosure, my son is one of them—have seen budgets cut from the high-six figures to the low-six figures and down into five, even four figures as well. This has certainly led to some pretty creative forms of budget cutting and video design. Still, with a pot filled suddenly with real gold at the end of the rainbow, there might be incentives to put some real money into what remains a true cinematic art form.

The ice was broken back in May when Time Warner's (nyse: TWX - news - people ) AOL and Sony (nyse: SNE - news - people ) BMG talked about making Sony BMG's huge catalog of music videos available on AOL, for a price estimated by some at $25 million or more. Suddenly, monetizing what had been a library of dusty videos seemed to become more than an early pipe dream of Andy Lack when he took over as head of Sony BMG. Universal and Warner reportedly have similar deals in place, granting customers of the big portals online access to its music video catalogs, and EMI may not be far behind.

And MobiTV, the video service for cell phones, already carries three music video channels offered by San Francisco-based CMC Broadcasting. CMC has a 25,000-strong library of videos which users can access as part of the $10 per month subscription to MobiTV. At the same time, Microsoft's (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) MSN and Yahoo! (nasdaq: YHOO - news - people ) are offering one time only streaming videos on their Web sites.

The big problem is that some of the Internet portals, such as AOL, wanted exclusivity from Sony BMG. But the labels aren't about to get snookered a second time like they did with MTV, when they gave up their music videos for free. Exclusivity might be a good thing in the short run for the likes of AOL. But if an 800-pound gorilla like the Apple-iTunes combo is lurking just off the trail, locking a label into a single distributor could prove to be a huge costly mistake.

Now, with Apple also on the phone to the likes of Warner, Universal, EMI and a host of other labels—and the wallets of millions of teeny-boppers poised to open for a whole new medium—there's talk of big money not so far over the horizon. Already, Apple said this weekend it has sold 500 million songs (at 99 cents a pop) since iTunes went online, and analysts are talking about a near-term market of 125 million music videos, presumably at a comparable figure.

Moreover, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, music video sales (DVD and VHS) jumped 51% last year to 32 million units, good for a haul of about $607 million.

All these numbers are just a fraction of the billions being lost every year to music pirates. According to NPD, there were nearly 275 million songs downloaded on P2P networks—i.e. stolen—in March alone, comparedto only 25 million songs purchased through legit services like iTunes.

Still, it's a start.

SANTIAGO, julio 18.- Un salto histórico no sólo para Chile sino para todo el Cono Sur dará este año la capital de la región de Los Lagos al inaugurar la primera fase del proyecto "Puerto Montt Digital".

Este proyecto, impulsado por la Municipalidad junto a las gigantes informáticas Cisco e Intel, permitirá a cualquier persona provista de un computador, notebook, PDA o teléfono celular compatible con Wi-Fi conectarse a Internet dentro de todo el radio urbano de la ciudad, con velocidades de hasta 256 kbps y en forma totalmente gratuita.

La autoridad local espera que este proyecto aumente el actual 20% de hogares conectados a la Red hasta un 50%, junto con la instalación de varios telecentros comunitarios aportados por Intel para los habitantes que no cuentan con equipos en sus casas.

"Puerto Montt Digital apunta a democratizar el acceso a la información a través de un sistema de conexión libre, apoyado en nuevas tecnologías, que permita a la ciudadanía acceder a internet ya sea a través de sus propios equipos o mediante telecentros en sedes sociales, escuelas, recintos deportivos y juntas de vecinos. Todo ello sin costo alguno para la ciudadanía", explicó el alcalde de Puerto Montt, Rabindranath Quinteros, al diario El Llanquihue.

El proyecto pretende habilitar este año su primera fase, abarcando el centro de la ciudad y su perímetro comercial. Posteriormente se extenderá el servicio a las zonas noroeste y noreste de Puerto Montt.

Tras corregir las vulnerabilidades presentes en la versión 1.0.4 de Firefox, la Fundación Mozilla lanzará un segundo parche que resuelve la incompatibilidad con gran cantidad de extensiones provocada por la actualización anterior. 18.07.2005, 11:05

Mouse.- Esta mejora llevarán tanto al navegador como al cliente de correo electrónico, Thunderbird, directamente a sus versiones 1.0.6, mientras que la Suite Mozilla - también conocida como SeaMonkey - registrará el número 1.7.10.

"Existen grandes probabilidades de que las mejoras de seguridad implementadas la semana pasada en la versión 1.0.5 hayan afectado el funcionamiento de varias extensiones, por lo que deseamos identificar plenamente los problemas antes del lanzamiento 1.0.6", dijeron representantes de la Fundación a ZDNet News.

Las extensiones son pequeñas aplicaciones desarrolladas por colaboradores independientes que funcionan dentro de los programas de la familia Mozilla.

Beer always tastes better when it's free, or so the saying goes.

So leave it to a group of college students to find a way to make sure their beer is always free. Well, at least the recipe they use to brew it is. A group of students at IT University of Copenhagen have produced what they claim is the first open-source beer.
The recipe and brand of their beer is published under a Creative Commons license, which means anyone can use the recipe for pleasure or profit.

The only catch: If you make money selling their unique beer, you have to give them credit and publish any changes you make to the recipe under a similar license.

Their inspiration wasn't just to get drunk, but to see what happens when an open-source structure is applied to a universally known product like beer.

"Why not take the legal framework, the open-source licenses, and apply them on analog products?" said Rasmus Nielsen, a member of Superflex, an art organization that helped create the beer in conjunction with a student group called Vores Øl (Our Beer).

On their website, the students said they are interested in seeing how their beer will get better once it is out in the world, acquiring slight improvements as the recipe is shared. Vjores Øl hopes that the beer "perhaps one day becomes the Linux of beers."

Version 1.0 of the libation is brewed using classic techniques but has a special ingredient to make it unique. Each batch of the golden-brown ale has guarana, a South American stimulant, added to it. The guarana is equivalent to 35 milligrams of caffeine, which Vores Øl suspects should counter the drowsiness-inducing effects of the 6 percent alcohol level.

Proponents of open source are always quick to counter the assumption that they make software code "free." A famous quote on the open-source GNU Project website explains the kind of freedom they really promote:

"Free software is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of 'free' as in 'free speech,' not as in 'free beer.'"

The guarana-infused beer isn't going to be handed out at frat parties, because it isn't free of charge. But the recipe to make a batch of the beer is open to all and is being enjoyed by beer lovers from Brazil to France, judging by guestbook entries on the Vores Øl website.

As open source spreads beyond software to online encyclopedias like Wikipedia and biological research, it was only a matter of time before somebody created an open-source beer.

According to the site, Vores Øl created the beer "as an experiment in applying modern open-source ideas and methods on a traditional real-world product." While the idea of open-source beer has been around since 1998 as a joke, the students and Superflex decided to make it a reality.

"Beer was chosen for its universal qualities as a commodity that we would like to think of as free," said Nielsen.

In an industry where taste is everything, a beer seller's recipe is typically kept under strict trademark. Home brewers, however, commonly share tips with each other, and home-brew recipe books abound.

"Home brewers enjoy telling the story about how they made it and what the recipes were. There are very few secrets kept by home brewers," said Charlie Papzian, president of the Brewers Association.

In the beer business, more than just recipes are moving toward open source, as some brewers are adopting an open-source business model as well. An ex-Red Hat employee in Australia has developed his love for spirits into an open-source project by creating a brewery that is owned in part by its customers.

Brewtopia allows its patrons to own part of the brewery and chime in on important brand decisions that relate to Blowfly, its beer.

"We second-guessed our choices every day that leaving the company open was the right thing to do," said Liam Mulhall, Brewtopia's CEO. "But when you have Harvard Business School using your company as a case study ... it's extremely satisfying."

El extraño mundo de Jack

Con el cercano estreno de Willie Wonka, proyecto largamente anunciado por Tim Burton,y la aproximacion de "Corpse bride" en Halloween, es un buen ejercicio volver a ver esta pelicula, que si bien no esta dirigida por Burton, el fue quien escribio la historia, creo los personajes y la produjo.

Esto se hace evidente en el personaje central de la historia, quien corresponde al arquetipo "Burtoniano" por antonomasia: El freak entre freaks. Jack Skenllington es el rey calabaza, la maxima celebridad de Halloween, quien sin embargo no encuentra en esto el sentido de su vida, sintiendose incomprendido por sus pares.
Este no es un topico recurrente en la filmografia de Burton, si no mas bien es el topico en que se basa toda su incursion en el cine. En cada una de sus peliculas nos presenta entrañables personajes que no encajan con la sociedad que le toca vivir. Asi lo vemos en "Manos de Tijera", donde la apariencia de Edward contrasta fuertemente con el vecindario de todas las casa iguales en que llega a vivir, y donde nunca es realmente aceptado como uno mas. En realidad, se puede nombrar cualquier pelicula de este director y encontraremos este mismo elemnto.
Volviendo a la pelicula que nos ocupa, y que fue dirigida por Henry Selick, tiene la gracia de ser el primer largometraje filmado en la compleja tecnica de Stop Motion. La hsitoria nos cuenta como Jack descubre entre su meditabundo paseo el peublo de navidad. Le impacta de tal manera, que quiere hacer suya esta neuva festividad, y para eso consigue la ayuda de todo su pueblo. Pero por supuesto, el resto de sus coterraneos no poseen su misma optica, y terminan transformando la festividad de navidad en una mas terrorifica que Halloween.
Esta pelicula tiene un plus muy especial para mi, es el que mi hija de 2 años y medio le encnata. Eso para mi demeustra que si los niños terminan viendo puros dibujitos idiotas o dinosaurios morados mamones es solo por que uno no les da la oportunidad de conocer otras cosas.

Los primeros teléfonos móviles sólo servían para hablar, pero los actuales tienen muchas más funciones: agenda, cámara fotográfica, conexión a Internet, alarma, juegos, pantalla a color, descarga de imágenes y sonidos... Ya hay teléfonos que son verdaderos computadores miniaturizados.

El teléfono móvil o celular nació de la vertiginosa evolución tecnológica del siglo pasado. La miniaturización y la multifunción ha marcado el camino de su desarrollo: el primer celular, de 1983, pesaba 780 gramos y tenía unas dimensiones de ladrillo (33 x 9 x 4,5 cm) y costaba unos US$ 3.600 (unos 2.160.000 pesos).

Los actuales pueden pesar entre 74 y 120 gramos con unas dimensiones algo menores que las de una cajetilla de cigarros y con unos precios que oscilan entre los $35.000 pesos en los modelos más simples y los $484.000 pesos de las versiones más lujosas.

El primer celular con el que se hizo una llamada en 1973 (hasta 1983 no funcionó de forma comercial) tenía muchas limitaciones por sus dimensiones, precio y autonomía. Estos obstáculos se han superado varias veces, ya que cada vez que se le ha añadido una nueva tecnología (UMTS) o función al teléfono (cámara de fotos, vídeo, reproducción de mp3), éste ha aumentado su peso, volumen y consumo, para luego recuperar su ya conocida forma, peso reducido y autonomía.

Sistemas operativos
La evolución actual pasa por convertirlos en computadores portátiles. Prueba de ello es el nacimiento de sistemas operativos específicamente diseñados para celulares, como el Symbian de (Panasonic, Siemens AG, Samsung y Sony Ericsson con la participación mayoritaria de Nokia) y el Windows Mobile del gigante informático Microsoft.
Las aplicaciones que pueden funcionar en los SmartPhones, también bautizados como teléfonos inteligentes, son infinitas. Entre ellas podemos encontrar la visualización de fotos, vídeos, textos, hojas de cálculo, videojuegos, y un larguísimo etcétera.

Los operadores no se conforman con dar servicios de voz, cada vez irán teniendo más importancia en sus ingresos el tráfico de información multimedia: el envío de mensajes con fotografías y vídeos; el envío de mensajes de texto, normales y para concursar o para hacer donativos a ONG; los servicios de descarga de imágenes, de vídeos ( series televisivas, vídeos musicales), de música, de videojuegos, de programas informáticos, de ringtones; la video-conferencia; el pago a través del teléfono móvil; la localización de personas y hasta el cálculo del tiempo estimado de llegada de un autobús.

Cars may be more complex now, but they can no longer be mediocre, and they must be cost-competitive.

All of the mainstream French and Italian automakers--and plenty of British ones--were, one by one, forced to abandon the U.S. because they neglected issues of quality, engineering and design. We had great hopes for the Motorola V710, but the limited Bluetooth was a sore disappointment. Since Verizon probably will do the same with its other Bluetooth phones, we suggest the Motorola V551 for Cingular. Sprint's Sanyo SCP-200 may be fine for very basic users, but its weak battery life and limited features mean Sprint's Sanyo VI-2300 is an improved option. However, even now in the early days of the 2005 model year, several vehicles stand out for subpar performance in several important categories--in some cases, matters of life and death such as safety.

What follows is a roundup of the ten worst cars on the market, based on three criteria: the worst crash test scores, the lowest projected reliability and the lowest projected residual values. We thought about castigating cars for multiple recalls, but the 2005 model year is too young to do so (most recalled '05 models have been recalled only once so far). Desde su descubrimiento a fines de los '70, el SIDA a cobrado millones de victimas en todo el mundo. Y aun mas son los infectados, de los cuales un porcentaje importante no sabe que tiene el virus y contagia a otras personas.
Su fuerte aparicion en un primer momento entre homosexuales hiso que fuera conocido como "la peste rosa", estigmatizando a los enfermos, y dandoles una muerte social antes que la real. Sin embargo, de apoco el mundo, en vista de las evidencias, a tomado conciencia de que cualquier persona que tenga una conducta de riesgo puede contraer el virus, sin importar su identidad sexual, raza, color, religion.
Es mas, en Chile durante el ultimo año, el grupo en que mas a aumentado el contagio es en las mujeres. En Estados Unidos esta creciendo mucho el contagio entre mujeres de tercera edad. Esto tiene un aexplicacion un tanto curiosa, ya que se debe principalmente a la apricion del viagra, que arevitalizado la vida sexual de hombres de mas 60 años. Como para las mujeres no existe algo parecido, se han hecho frecuentes el que estos hombres traten de saciar sus nuevos bros puertas afuera, con absolutamente ningun conocimiento de como debe comportarse una persona en la epoca del SIDA. Acto seguido, contagian a sus esposas.
Con el correr de los años se ha sabido mucho de esta enfermedad, se han clarificado las formas de contagio y tambien las formas de evitarlo. Pero no se ha encontrado una cura. Quizas ayudaria para este fin el saber cual fue la causa, la razon por que se produjo el primer contagio.
La teoria mas aceptada por los cientificos es la del cazador: " un cazador en Africa caso a un chimpance contagiado con el SIV, y al comer su carne el virus se convirtio en VIH"...Pero la otra teoria posible, crea resquemores entre los cientificos, princiapalmente por que toca a una de los "Mostruos Sagrados" de sus filas: HIllary Kaprorwski.
Existe suficiente evidencia, no solo en documentos, si no que tambien en archivos filmicos de que es una posibilidad que sus Vacunas CHAT usadas en el COngo Belga fueran las causantes del traspaso de SIV a los humanos. Officials in Pakistan have confirmed that one of the men who carried out last week's bomb attacks in London had previously visited Pakistan.

So far though they have not been able to pinpoint the movements of the bomber, Shehzad Tanweer, in the country or say who he met.

They say he visited Pakistan twice, spending a total of four months there.

On Wednesday Tanweer's uncle said he had been to Pakistan and attended an Islamic school, or madrassa.

Longer period

According to knowledgeable sources, Pakistani intelligence and investigation agencies are working flat out to accommodate British demands for leads on any of the three London bombers of Pakistani descent.

The sources confirmed to the BBC that Shehzad Tanweer entered Pakistan on two occasions.

They say the first occasion was a brief visit, possibly at the end of 2003, then for a longer period later.

His entries were tracked by a system called Pisces in which everyone who comes into Pakistan legally, via any port of entry, is photographed.

The sources say agencies in Pakistan are still trying to discover Tanweer's movements inside the country.

The sources say the other two bombers of Pakistani descent had not been picked up on the Pisces system.

So if they did enter Pakistan after 2002, when the system was introduced, they did so illegally.

The sources said little was known about the bombers in Pakistan, but more may be known about the people they may have been in contact with.

That, and efforts to ascertain whether there was a Pakistan-based mastermind, will be the focus of investigations in the coming days and weeks.

The sources also said reports that British anti-terrorism, or intelligence investigators, were on their way to Pakistan were untrue."

Tanweer, de 22 a�os, era el mayor de los cuatro hijos de una familia acomodada que viv�a en el barrio de Beeston, en Leeds, al norte de Londres. Crossovers are hot. These wagon- or SUV-like vehicles--which are closer to cars than traditional, truck-based SUVs--offer attractive styling, refined rides and, frequently, good gas mileage.

Some crossovers, such as General Motors' (nyse: GM - news - people ) Chevrolet Equinox are selling in high volumes--to the delight of their parent companies. Other automakers are scrambling to catch up.

Take Ford Motor (nyse: F - news - people ). The company has several crossovers coming in the near future, but for now the Ford Freestyle--which uses a wimpy 203-hp engine--is about all the company has.

Compared with other crossovers, the Freestyle is not selling particularly well. Its 35,497 American sales in the first half of 2005 matched 79% of the sales of DaimlerChrysler's (nyse: DCX - news - people ) Chrysler Pacifica in the same period, and only 50% of the Equinox's sales.

According to supplier sources familiar with the automaker's plans, Ford will drop the Freestyle at the end of model-year 2007 and will let its Mercury subsidiary have a face-lifted version of the vehicle--a new 2007 or 2008 model based on Mercury's recent Meta One prototype.

In a phone interview yesterday, a Ford spokesperson declined to comment on these plans, but said, 'Actually, Freestyle is doing quite well...We're happy with the way it's selling.'

If this is true, Ford is happy with a vehicle that is in the middle of the pack. The Freestyle's sales compare favorably with those of some competitors, such as Nissan Motor's (nasdaq: NSANY - news - people ) Murano, but not with others, such as the Pacifica.

Dan Simmons and the President of Rwanda Eleven years ago the world watched as around a million Rwandans were killed in the 1994 genocide. It was hardly the sort of place you might expect to lead Africa into a new IT age, but that's exactly what it's aiming to do: promising to be a technology hub within five years. From the capital, Kigali, Dan Simmons investigates whether Rwanda's technology dream could come true.

Kigali Genocide Memorial In Kigali entrepreneurs sit by the road offering to type up letters for a small fee. For many reasons, this former Belgian colony has, like most of Africa, been slow to start using modern technology.

Outside the cities many rely on subsistence farming. Historically there's been little need for high-tech, but in recent years this country has been harbouring a great ambition.

While villagers dig to sow the seeds for the next crop, other workers use similar tools to dig towards a longer-term goal. High speed data links are beginning to span the country, because Rwanda dreams of leading Africa into the information age.

The laying of fibre optic cables is considered too expensive to cover the vast tracts of land between the cites of most African nations. Rwanda, however, is small and densely populated.

Laying cableAlready this year the capital has been connected to the next main town, Gitarama. The plan is to link up all the five main population centres by the end of this year, reaching more than half the population.

Base stations along the way will allow wireless connections to the cable from several kilometres away. Anyone patched in benefits from data transfer speeds of upt o 2MBPS - offering phone, Internet, and television services.

Manholes mean the network can be expanded in the future. It will be quicker, more reliable, and cheaper to run than the satellite links used in neighbouring countries.

The company in charge believes it will change lives.

Sandra Rwamushaija Sandra Rwamushaija, Finance Director, Terracom: "Lots of Rwandans haven't even left Kigali or Rwanda, so this will be able to make them aware of what's going on outside Rwanda, out of their little area.

It will be able to give them more vision of what else they can do rather than what they used to. They'll be able to think of new [ways] of bringing in money other than just agriculture."

The government, schools and businesses are coming online first, but at $125 a month the network is far too expensive for most individuals.

So, like in most of Africa, it's at Internet cafes where ordinary people may notice the change.

Last year the owner of one cafe told me he'd been plagued by connection problems when using the phone network to get online. Now, on fibre optics, he can offer his customers a reliable link at more than twice the speed.

However, Rwanda's high tech dream is still haunted by its worst nightmare. Up to a million people were killed here during the genocide in 1994, and the murderers targeted the educated.

KIST The fighting ended with a new government determined to change the nation's fortunes.

While most African nations talked about a digital divide, Rwanda was busy bridging it. It offered tax breaks to IT investors and attracted foreign aid.

One building, which used to be army barracks, now plays a key role in filling Rwanda's skills gap; The Kigali Institute of Science, Technology and Management (KIST) now trains more than 3,000 students.

Rwanda's secondary school teachers come here to learn how best to pass on computer skills to the next generation. In another classroom the lesson is how different parts of a PC work.

Gaston Rangira Gaston Rangira, ICT Instructor, KIST: "They can install different devices to computers and configure them. They can repair programs that have got a problem, and diagnose a problem with the computer."

As well as offering three-year degree courses the Institute also has shorter, fast-track schemes which are more affordable.

Prof. Eliphis Bisanda, Registrar, KIST: "After four months somebody is ready to go and work. This is actually what the country need now, because the demand for ICT professionals and technicians is very high."

At the moment there are more jobs in IT than skilled labour, fuelling an enthusiasm here to learn.

Yves Kimenyi Gatsinzi, Graduate, KIST: "I'm now in a good position, managing now around 200 PCs and 7 servers and 4 subnets."

President Paul Kagame Rwanda's President, Paul Kagame, is credited with being the driving force behind the changes. He told me of his hopes for the country.

Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda: "We want to move faster, we want to move beyond where we are. The only constraint is limited resources, but I think resources are coming and we have to move fast in terms of training our people. I think the progress is quite good.

The aim is to make Rwanda the hub of the region."

In Kigali itself even Wi-Fi is now available in a few places. To Western eyes these advances aren't anything new, but in Africa they're significant steps.

At the same time Rwanda has some much more basic mountains to climb before its dream can come true.

Most people here live in poverty, without electricity. Most children don't make it to Secondary School. Para empezar la seccion de diccionario, una propuesta para mejorar tu vocabulario,he elegido la palabra "Owned"...
Dejando de lado su traduccion literal, en el uso cotidiano hace referencia a cuando alguien le ha ganado a alguien, lo a dominado, lo ha puesto en ridiculo, etcetera,sin que necesariamente la victima se haya dado cuenta. para muestra, una imagen vale mas que mil palabras.

Debo decir, que, si bien no se necesita ser precisamente un genio del Html, si es bueno estar familirizado con este para poder usar de buena manera los blog.
Para muestra, simplemente les puedo contar, que por defecto este tipo de blog les dejara todo el texto que hayan escrito en la entrada completamente visible. Eso es especialmente molesto cuando tienen post muy largos, com los que hay en esta pagina. Y no hay ninguna forma "automatica" para dejar solo titulares. La unica salida es meterle mano a la plantilla (codigo html) del sitio completo, y despues poenr marcadores html a cada post...el tutorial esta en ingles, pero si no me da paja, capaz que me paxee y lo traduzaca para postearlo aca.En una de esas a alguien le sirve

Identificados los terroristas y detenido un sospechoso del 7-J
La Policía británica asegura que al menos uno de los autores murió en los ataques.
Londres. Cinco días después de los atentados que sacudieron Londres el jueves 7 de julio, la Policía británica realizó ayer la primera detención y confirmó que había identificado a tres de los cuatro terroristas que pudieron cometer los ataques y que al menos uno de ellos murió. Cuando comenzaban a surgir las primeras críticas por la lentitud de las investigaciones, la Policía realizó ayer una intensa redada en West Yorkshire, en el norte del país, que dio sus frutos con la detención de un hombre supuestamente emparentado con uno de los presuntos autores de la masacre, que fue llevado a la capital británica para ser interrogado, declaró el número dos de la Brigada Antiterrorista de Scotland Yard, Peter Clarke .

Tras dar detalles sobre la investigación, confirmó que hay "pruebas forenses firmes" de que el terrorista fallecido perdió la vida en el tren siniestrado en la estación de Aldgate. "Se han podido establecer los movimientos de tres hombres de Yorkshire y sus direcciones", explicó.

El jefe de la brigada antiterrorista confirmó que los cuatro supuestos autores llegaron a Londres en tren el jueves por la mañana, antes de los atentados. Analizando las grabaciones de las cámaras de seguridad, han descubierto que estaban en King's Cross a las 8.30 de la mañana, 20 minutos antes de que estallaran las tres bombas colocadas en el metro.

Clarke también afirmó que la Policía ha encontrado documentación con los nombres de tres de los cuatro presuntos terroristas cerca del autobús de dos pisos siniestrado y de dos de los tres afectados por el atentado.

El funcionario confirmó la detención del individuo sospechoso en una operación en la que unidades del Ejército y la Policía irrumpieron en una vivienda de Leeds tras llevar a cabo una explosión contralada en el barrio de Burley, que obligó a evacuar a entre 500 y 600 personas.

Según la cadena Sky News, la pista que habría llevado hasta Leeds habría sido la identificación de uno de los cadáveres del autobús en Tavistock Square como uno de los terroristas, aunque no se sabe si se suicidó o si la bomba explotó sin que fuera su intención.

Aunque la Policía no lo ha confirmado, la cadena aseguró que además de ese terrorista, otros tres que pudieron haber participado en la masacre también perecieron. Pese a que Scotland Yard descartó en un primer momento que hubiese un terrorista suicida entre los 13 cadáveres del autobús, varios pasajeros supervivientes relataron que había un hombre sospechoso a bordo con una mochila que mantenía una actitud "nerviosa". Por todo ello, cada vez cobra más fuerza la hipótesis de que pudieron ser terroristas suicidas y de origen británico.

Además, las fuerzas de seguridad cerraron ayer la estación de tren de Luton (norte de Londres), al hallar en el aparcamiento un coche supuestamente relacionado con los atentados, en el que se encontraron explosivos y en el que la Policía llevó a cabo varias explosiones controladas, después de evacuar la estación y el aparcamiento y acordonar la zona. Paralelamente, la Policía investiga un segundo automóvil sospechoso en Leighton Buzzard, también al norte de la capital.

Para curarse en salud, el jefe de Scotland Yard, Ian Blair, advirtió ayer de que un nuevo atentado en Londres es "probable", ya que junto con Nueva York son "objetivos de primer orden" para los terroristas. Como medida de precaución, ayer se activó un dispositivo de seguridad en la Cámara de los Comunes que concluyó sin efectos en la actividad parlamentaria.

No es la primera vez que el Gobierno o la Policía británica advierten de que no hay que bajar la guardia porque los atentados pueden repetirse. De hecho, el país está en estado de máxima alerta y desde el 7-J se han realizado varias evacuaciones.

Informe reveló que algunas marcas contienen hasta un 46% de azúcar dentro de sus componentes y significan un grave peligro para la salud. Nestlé se defiende de las acusaciones. (Terra.cl)

SANTIAGO, julio 12, 2005.- Una seria crítica al supuesto aporte nutritivo que entregan los cereales a la población formuló la Organización de Consumidores de Chile, Odecu, luego de un estudio a los componentes de las distintas marcas que ofrece el mercado.

El estudio fue efectuado por la ex nutricionista del Ministerio de Salud Cecilia Castillo, quien reunió 54 productos y examinó los ingredientes especificados en las etiquetas llegando a la conclusión de que la mayoría de los cereales contiene altos índices de azúcar, sal y grasas.

Stefan Larenas, presidente de Odecu, explicó a Terra.cl que “estos productos son tremendamente negativos para la salud, tienen hasta un 46% de azúcar y constituyen un riesgo para los niños, que son precisamente sus principales consumidores”.

Por esta razón, el objetivo del estudio es concientizar a la población acerca de la publicidad engañosa de los cereales, “porque se los vende como un complemento e incluso sustituto del desayuno, pero en realidad no entregan aportes a la salud”, afirmó Larenas.

En segundo lugar, el organismo busca que las empresas reduzcan el nivel de azúcar de sus productos, “sobre todo Nestlé, pues con su marca Kellogs tiene gran participación en el consumo”, agregó.

RESULTADOS
El cereal Fruit Loops de Kellog´s fue el que arrojó el mayor porcentaje de azúcar, mientras que Quaker avena tradicional es el mejor evaluado, puesto que no contiene azúcar, sal, ni grasas hidrogenadas.

La situación preocupa a los encargados del estudio, ya que según el último estudio del Ministerio de Salud, el 25 por ciento de los alumnos de primero básico sufre de problemas de sobrepeso.

Al respecto Larenas opinó que el éxito de los cereales se debe a “el consumismo que se ha dado en Chile y la mayor influencia de los niños a la hora de comprar. También tiene que ver con todo el merchandising que viene asociado a la marca, porque los cereales vienen acompañados de figuritas o promociones de películas y eso estimula su compra sin saber lo dañinos que son”, afirmó.

OBESIDAD
El médico nutriólogo Jaime García habló acerca de la importancia de que se den a conocer estos estudios “porque así la gente puede escoger entre los cereales que tienen más o menos azúcar”.

Sin embargo, apuntó al hecho de que “no se justifica que un alimento así contenga tantos niveles de grasas, azúcar y sal, por lo que los empresarios deberían preocuparse de eso y hacerlos más saludables. El cereal en sí es un elemento que entrega aportes en fibras y calorías, por lo que no es adecuado retirarlo de la dieta si cuenta con los nutrientes en la medida necesaria”, dijo.

NESTLÉ SE DEFIENDE
Luego de conocerse el estudio la empresa Nestlé emitió un comunicado en el que se defiende de las acusaciones y argumenta que el desayuno debe estar compuesto por una porción equilibrada del cereal combinada con otros alimentos.

“Los índices de los ingredientes presentes en los cereales para el desayuno están directamente relacionados con las necesidades nutricionales que se presentan a esa hora del día, ya que lo que se consume y se recomienda -al menos en el caso de Nestlé-, es ingerir una porción de cereales, leche y una fruta en el desayuno”.

El documento agrega que “cuando hablamos de una porción, llegamos, por ejemplo, a concentraciones de azúcar de 11 ó 12 gramos, cantidad que sumada a la leche, llega a alrededor de 18 gramos”.

“Lo relevante es, por tanto, centrarse en los porcentajes por porción. Naturalmente no es recomendable ingerir una caja completa de cereales en el desayuno; frente a esto existe un tema de responsabilidad de los consumidores frente a su propia salud y la de sus hijos”.

Asimismo, la empresa aseguró el contenido promedio de grasas adicionadas de su cereal es de 5 gramos por cada 100 gramos. “Se trata de cantidades mínimas de grasas considerando la dieta tanto de adultos como de niños. No obstante lo anterior, es importante aclarar que las personas también requieren de grasas en su alimentación: un niño, por ejemplo, debe consumir unos 50 gramos de este nutriente al día”.

Pero el caso que atendi�ayer al aire en su programa matinal de Radio Pudahuel, lo dej�helado.

Una auditora de nombre Joanna relat�la escalofriante experiencia que vive la familia Soto Mart�nez, en la localidad de Huiscapi (zona cercana a Villarrica, en la Novena Regi�n). La historia es como sigue.

La hija menor de la familia (de 16 a�os) manifestaba s�ntomas de estar pose�da por extra�as energ�as que la ten�an con convulsiones y maldiciendo al estilo de la pel�cula 'El exorcista'. En sus m�ltiples intentos por recuperarla, uno de sus hermanos (de 22 años) lleg�a decir que ofrec�a su vida por salvarla. Poco despues, el joven murio en un extraño accidente de tr�nsito. Tras esto, la ni�a mejor�pero ahora su hermano mayor (de 26) sufre un estado similar: habla con voz gutural, dice ser Satan�s y asegura que la familia completa morir�.

'Este joven todav�a no se recupera y la ciencia m�dica, que es lo primero a lo que uno recurre, no le halla explicaci�n', cont�la mujer, que se identific�como 'una media pariente', en el espacio 'La ma�ana de Pablo Aguilera'.

Con m�s calma, el experimentado locutor admite que el caso 'me asombr�bastante, porque hay una persona que ya muri�. Adem�s, destaca la seriedad del suceso. 'La propia Iglesia tom�cartas en el asunto y me dec�an que ya se pidi�la orden al Vaticano para poder hacer un exorcismo', agrega.

Dentro de los antecedentes del hecho, Aguilera (que fuera de micr�fono tambi�n habl�con una de las hermanas) recuerda las misteriosas circunstancias que han rodeado este caso. 'Cuando van los curitas (a la casa) se les perdi�la Biblia que llevaban, les cost�entrar, incluso. Y cuando vieron el panorama se asustaron bastante. Han ido pastores evang�licos y un mont�n de gente', enumera. Y agrega el extra�o episodio de la muerte del hermano. 'Los dos cabros mayores trabajaban juntos en buses, uno manejaba y el menor era auxiliar. Y en un frenazo brusco, el joven que ofrec�a su vida sale disparado por el parabrisas y muere. A los pasajeros no les pas�nada. Es todo muy extra�o', complementa.

-�C�mo sentiste a esta familia, Pablo?

-Ellos est�n bastante desesperados, porque empieza a cundir el susto en la gente. Los lugare�os est�n todos asustados y ellos no saben qu�hacer. Esta familia no puede m�s.

-Imagino que ya est�s intentando ayudar.

-Me dieron el dato de que en Puerto Montt hab�a un cura, con nombre y apellido, que hab�a intervenido en una situaci�n similar. Pero la di�cesis de Puerto Montt no puede intervenir en la de Villarrica, porque las dos tienen obispo. Hay todo un l�o burocr�tico y el llamado a trav�s de los medios es para que los organismos intervengan m�s r�pido, para ver si logran tener una mejor�a.

-�C�mo te sientes con un caso como este?

-Estoy bastante impactado y, honestamente, aunque digan que me estoy rayando, creo que hay una realidad paralela a la nuestra que simplemente no conocemos. Ahora, �cu�l es la explicaci�n?, no s�. Lo m�s f�cil ser�a decir que es el Demonio, pero tiendo a pensar que son energ�as que se manifestaron."

A estas alturas, asumo que entre blog, fotologs, sitios web, "spaces", comunidades, etcetera, debo tneer mas de 10 espacios para decir algo. Si enmbargo, la mayoria termina sin uso por lo que queda en el olvido, para ser reemplazado por uno nuevo, en el cual espero cambiar mi conducta y por fin dedicarme a escrbir cosas de manera regular. Siempre pienso que un nuevo comienzo, un comienzo en limpio, es la salida para lograr mi cometido.
Pero ahora es distinto, se que lo hare....las 10 o 15 veces anteriores no estaba reaelmente convencido...ahora tampoco, pero antes pensaba que enr ealidad nadie veria lo que escribia...ahora pienso que pasara lo mismo, pero la difernecia esta en que ahroa veo la vida de una forma distinta, algo cambiado en mi...igual que las veces anteriores, sentia lo mismo.

Bueno, como todos sabemos y es una maxima unviersal, "dura, lo que dura, dura"...asi que veamos cuanto dura este blog recibiendo entradas de manera mas o menos habitual, y cuanto nos demoramos en movernos a otro sitema nuevo de divulgacion de cosas sin importancia para nadie.
